Vampire Journals Review - A Must For Full Moon And Subspecies Fans

Vampire Journals (1997)

This beautiful movie is basically a spin off of Subspieces, one of my favorite vampire series ever and directed by Ted Nicolaou (also of Subspecies) and released by Full Moon productions.  In Vampire Journals we are introduced to the character Ash, who makes an appearance in Subspecies 4 later.  This film is beautiful and starts off with a snowy cemetery scene and fantastic piano music that lasts throughout the movie.  This movie was surely a late influence on my personal aesthetics and ideas of what is darkly gorgeous.  Vampire Journals has everything I love from Full Moon; romance, lighting, settings and a 90's aesthetic and I really like Full Moon's interpretation of the vampire as well.  Their vampires are unique yet consistent and they mix the beautiful and grotesque nicely.  They don't let you forget that vampires are actually monsters like in other films.  I've seen this movie a number of times but this time around I'm reminded that most times I sit down to watch a movie what I'm really wanting is more Full Moon productions.  So more from them in the future for sure!  Kvlt

Watch the full movie here!  Also a Netflix rental.
