The Pumpkinhead series is not one I ever really cared to delve deep into so I thought it's about time I finally give these movies a shot. The original Pumpkinhead from 1988 (Netflix rental) starts off with firey intro credits and a creepy and cool synth intro music but it all seems to last forever! Once the ever long credits end this movie hits you from the beginning with action and we get our first glimpse of the monster very early. It has a Children Of The Corn feel at first as it's set in a country farming town. As a quick run down as to what your in for; a father loses his son and enlists a witch to exact revenge on a group of young motocross racers, everything else is pure horror fantasy! The scenes in this movie are very lush and detailed and the whole segment with the witch is scary and amazing! Although the birth of the monster played by Tom Woodruff Jr. is short it is still impressive and the way the monster morphs is nothing short of spectacular, for writing, concept and make up effects. The absolute best scene in this movie is the kitchen scene. Not many movies give me that sinister and shocked laughter that leaves you saying "Oh I can't believe that just happened!" but that kitchen scene gave me that rare macabre chuckle. There is heavy use of fog machines and red and blue lighting which I love but the music in this movie does nothing for me. It typically stays in the sound effects range instead of a soundtrack style score. Now that I've finally seen this film I'll have to say this is essential viewing for hard core horror fans! Essential
